Avon Federation was formed in 1975, includes the vibrant cities of Bristol and Bath and surrounding countryside. With 95 WI’s and approximately 3700 members we offer diverse opportunities to members. The WI is thriving in our area and large new WI’s are forming every year.
Our varied programme has encouraged many members to attempt feats beyond their wildest dreams. Whatever your interests are we can offer you something to inspire you. We are always open to suggestions of new ideas for events. Our Federation Secretary, Debbie Storey in our Keynsham office welcomes both telephone enquiries and visits during office hours.
Structure
To ensure the smooth running of the WI as an organisation, we have structured the organisation on a local, regional and national level.
National
The National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) is responsible for running the organisation as a whole. Its headquarters are located in Parsons Green, London. There is also an office in Cardiff for NFWI-Wales. The NFWI employs around 40 staff, headed by a Chief Executive.
Regional
Every WI is self-governing within the framework of the WI constitution and belongs to a regional office, known as a federation. These 69 federations are run by an elected board of members known as Federation Trustees and employed staff. Federations are the link between the WI in their area and the WI’s national office in London.
That is also the reason why we advise you to please go through through the federation when if you would like to contact a specific WI.
Local
Joining your local WI means becoming part of the WI as an organisation. You are one of us now and can enjoy all the opportunities open to you as a member.
You can find out about membership and the fee by speaking to a Committee member
