Kenn WI

Kenn WI is a diverse group of women with some amazing skills and experience.

We formed in 1953, and currently have over 30 members who meet monthly and engage in an activity or listen to a speaker. We also fundraise for local charities and participate in the national WI campaigns and initiatives.

We meet in Kenn village hall. There is plenty of on street parking and generally there is parking in the adjacent field. The hall has level access and accessible toilets ensure convenience for all who visit.

Inspiring women – then and now

The Women’s Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War.

Since then our aims have broadened and we are now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. We celebrated our centenary in 2015 and currently have around 180,000 members in approximately 5,500 WIs.

We play a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.

The WI is a unique organisation shaped by its members. In 1915, we set out to give women a voice and to be a force for good in the community.  Since then, our members and our ambitions alike have grown tremendously.  Today, we are the largest women’s organisation in the UK and we pride ourselves on being a trusted place for all women of all generations, to share experiences and learn from each other. A WI membership offers the opportunity to meet women in your local area in-person and virtually, to make friends and make a difference in your community. We campaign nationally on a wide range of issues and provide life-long learning and self-development opportunities for women in England and Wales.
